Training Updates: Getting the First Few Laps In

With the Perkins Plunge getting closer, training is starting to become a much bigger part of my routine!

Over the past few weeks, being limited by a partially-weight bearing  and unstable hip in recovery; I’ve been getting into the pool and working on building up my swimming fitness and technique. To help with training, I’ve also invested in some new swimming equipment, including a new pair of goggles, swim gear and training aids to help me get the most out of each session.

The goal isn’t just to swim further — I’m focusing on improving my technique, building endurance and getting comfortable spending longer periods in the water. Since the Perkins Plunge involves our team swimming continuously throughout the night, being prepared for those late-night laps is going to be just as important as being fit enough to swim them!

Every session is another step towards November 21–22, when our team will take on 12 hours of swimming from 6pm to 6am to raise money and awareness for the Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research.

It’s going to be a huge challenge, but having the right equipment and a proper training routine is making the whole thing feel a little more achievable.

I’ll keep sharing updates as training progresses — hopefully there’ll be some big improvements to report over the next few months, especially when I’m able to use my legs 😂.

If you’d like to support me and the team in our efforts to help fund vital cancer research, every donation makes a difference. ❤️

One lap at a time. 🏊‍♂️

Taking the Plunge in Memory of My Grandad

In 2015, the day after my 10th birthday, I lost my grandfather to brain cancer. Watching someone you love battle such a devastating disease leaves a mark that never really fades.

That's why I'm taking on the Perkins Plunge.

I'll be swimming through the night to raise vital funds for the Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research, where some of WA's brightest researchers are working to better understand, treat and ultimately defeat the world's toughest diseases.

The past year has also been one of the toughest of my own life. In October 2025, and then again in June 2026 I underwent two major hip reconstructive surgeries (Periacetabular Osteotomy), spending months learning to walk again, rebuilding my strength, and appreciating just how much we can take our health for granted. That journey has given me an even greater appreciation for the challenges faced by people living with serious illnesses and the importance of medical research.

I’m doing the Perkins Plunge in memory of my Grandad, and to help raise funds that support life-changing research into brain cancer and other diseases. Every donation, no matter the size, helps researchers move closer to better treatments and, hopefully, cures that will spare other families from experiencing the same loss.

Thank you for supporting me, remembering my Grandad, and helping make a difference.
