Carolyn Wilson

I’m on a mission to beat the world toughest diseases – one lap at a time.

My inspirations are many.

I am inspired by my father who died at the age of 49 of bowel cancer, and by the other family members and friends affected by this and other illnesses.

I am inspired by my patients who approach their diagnoses and therapies with bravery and who benefit so much from the medical research that has come before.

I am inspired by the extraordinary team of doctors and nurses and all the other multidisciplinary staff in the Royal Perth Hospital Emergency Department who continue to amaze me with their exemplary teamwork and care, often in extremely challenging circumstances.

I am inspired by the medical researchers in CCREM (Centre for Clinical Research in Emergency Medicine) who are world leaders and continue to be passionate about progress and evidence-based change.

I am inspired by friends in medical research with a particular shout out to their contributions to evidence-based change in lung cancer screening and management as well as to equity in paediatric care.

I am inspired by this incredible community – those who have organised this event, those who choose to swim all night and those who volunteer.

I am inspired by and grateful to those who are supporting this Perkins Plunge and thus raising vital funds for medical research.

And I am inspired by my children who have previously raised funds for research into leukaemia and COVID.

All contributions, no matter the size, will make a difference!

Thank you very much.

No one wants to hear those terrible words… it’s cancer… or it’s heart disease… or diabetes or worst still – we don’t know what it is.

And no one should have to see their loved ones’ suffering..

Whether it is a loved one, family member, friend or much closer to home, when you’re faced with a serious disease, you want the most advanced treatments possible.

That’s why I am taking on the Perkins Plunge to raise vital funds for WA medical research at the Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research.

I’m swimming through the night to help WA’s best medical researchers. The funds I raise will support the brilliant minds at the Perkins who are committed to finding breakthroughs that will lead to breakthroughs and maybe even cures for the hardest-to-treat diseases.

Whether you join me in the pool (I’d love the company) or contribute to my fundraising page, your generous support matters now but, more importantly, safeguards our future health.

Together, we’re helping WA’s best researchers beat the world’s toughest diseases.
